The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for bye-election to three Assembly Constituencies in Odisha, Uttarakhand and Kerala.
The bypoll will be held on May 31 while the results will be announced on June 3.
The constituencies going to bypolls include Brajarajnagar (constituency number 6) in Odisha, Thrikkakara (no 83) in Kerala and Champawat (no 55) in Uttarakhand.
In a release, the ECI stated that the published electoral rolls for these Assembly Constituencies with respect to 01.01.2022 will be used for these elections.
Further, EVMs and VVPATs will be used in the bye-elections in the three states.
Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or any one of the following identification documents can be used at polling stations to cast vote: Aadhar Card, MNREGA Job Card, Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, Driving License, PAN Card, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension document with photograph, Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies, and Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, M/o Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect following the announcement of the dates of bypolls.
Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will contest the bye-election from Champawat seat after BJP MLA Kailash Chandra Gahatodi submitted his resignation from the Assembly constituency. In the recently concluded Assembly Elections, BJP had returned to power in Uttarakhand by winning 47 seats but CM Dhami had lost the election.
