UP minister calls coal shortage a ‘global crisis’, says CM Yogi ensuring 24-hour power supply in state

Amid an alarming shortage of coal, widespread power cuts and a hindered railways movement, Uttar Pradesh Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary on Saturday claimed that the coal shortage is a global crisis.
When asked about the reports of India running short on coal supply, he said, “The world is facing coal crisis due to COVID1-9, however, CM directed to provide 24-hour power supply in district headquarters. In villages, 15-hour power supply will be provided.”
Meanwhile, the situation remains completely different than the claims made by the Uttar Pradesh minister regarding the power supply in the state.
Yesterday, commuters faced trouble in Prayagraj as Railways cancelled passenger trains to facilitate coal movement amid power crisis.
While speaking to media, a commuter said, “After reaching at the station, we got to know about the cancellation of train. I have to go to Delhi but so far no train is available.”
A wheat businessman from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur complained about power cuts in the city and said that it is leading to financial losses.
“There are untimely and frequent power cuts. It is causing small shopkeepers a lot of problems,” another shopkeeper said.
Another resident said that there is a water problem because of the power cuts.
“We are facing a lot of problems because of the power cuts. There is a water problem because of power cuts. The children face problems. Summer is at its peak, but there are frequent power cuts,” he said.
An office-goer person narrated his plight and said that he faces problems in taking a peaceful sleep at night due to power cuts after hard work during the day.
“There are a lot of problems. We do our duty and when we come to fill water here, there is no electricity. We are not able to sleep properly at night. We are asked to pay the full bill, but full electricity is not provided,” he said.
