Ravindra Jadeja’s stint as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came to an end before their must-win fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). With only 2 wins from 8 matches, CSK are reeling at the 9th spot in the points table and are staring at an early exit from the tournament.
They need to win every fixture from here to keep their chances of making it to the next round alive. A defeat will end CSK’s campaign and will make them 2nd team to be ruled out of the competition. 24 hours before the fixture, Jadeja handed back the captaincy to Dhoni, who led them to 4 IPL title wins.
Dhoni had relinquished the top job before IPL 2022. Jadeja’s decision hints that the Dhoni might continue to play for a couple of more years or the franchise might look for a new captain in the next auction. As CSK restart their journey under Dhoni, here’s a look at their struggling run under the leadership of Ravindra Jadeja –
The Yellow Army kicked off its campaign with a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders. In the next fixture, debutants Lucknow Super Giants chased down the huge total of 211 to expose the flaw in CSK’s bowling. They are without the services of Deepak Chahar.
Chasing 181 against Punjab Kings, CSK were bowled out for 126 in their 3rd fixture while they failed to defend a target of 155 against then out-of-form Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Jadeja-led side finally snapped its winless streak against Royal Challengers Bangalore by defending a target of 217. Though they suffered another defeat in the next tie as Gujarat Titans chased down the target of 170. In their 7th fixture, CSK defeated an out-of-form Mumbai Indians. They chased down the target of 156 on the final delivery.
In their 8th tie, Jadeja’s last as captain, the four-time IPL Champions lost to Punjab Kings for the 2nd time. On this occasion, they failed to chase the target of 188.
