Mumbai Indians stumbled to their eight consecutive defeat in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) after a 36-run loss at hands of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The loss made MI the first-ever franchise in the history of the IPL to lose each of their first eight games in any season of the league.
While KL Rahul’s second century of the season vs MI stole the limelight, it was Krunal Pandya’s noteworthy send-off for Kieron Pollard towards the end of the game that became the highlight of the encounter. After Krunal dismissed Pollard in the last over of the game, he gave an unique send-off to the ex-West Indies cricketer with a kiss on the head.
Earlier in the match, Pollard had taken the wicket of Krunal. The duo had shared a dressing room with each other for six years (2016-2021) and played an integral role in helping MI win the IPL title in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Following the culmination of the match, Pollard wrote a special post for the Baroda all-rounder claiming they finished 1-1 by taking each other’s wicket. Krunal’s younger brother Hardik, who is currently leading the Gujarat Titans responded to the post.
While MI are set to finish last in IPL 2022, LSG have made a dream start to their debut campaign. The KL Rahul-led team are currently fourth in the table with five wins and three defeats in eight games
