Mumbai Indians youngster Dewald Brevis continues to build a strong reputation for himself with another quick-fire knock in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. While the Twitterverse once again hailed the South Africa, a rather strange tweet from Ben Stokes caught everyone’s attention.
Brevis, who was promoted at the No. 3 spot by MI skipper Rohit Sharma once again ended up scoring a whopping 31 runs from just 13 balls. For a moment, it looked like the South African would only deal in boundaries. Much like cricket lovers on social media, Ben Stokes also took to Twitter to hail the teenage batter
Just moments after Stokes’ tweet, however, Brevis was dismissed by Lucknow pacer Avesh Khan. Seeing the 18-year-old’s fiery innings end after just 13 balls, Stokes posted another tweet on the micro-blogging site, apologising to the young MI batter.
Though MI haven’t been able to win a single match in the IPL 2022 season so far, Brevis has been one of the few bright stars this season. He has also earned the nickname ‘Baby AB’ for the similarity between his style of play and that of South African legend AB de Villiers’.
In a conversation with the broadcaster Star Sports, Brevis had even admitted that he has a special relationship with De Villiers, who has played a big role in his development over the years.
“He’s played a big role, it’s a special relationship. He teaches me small things that helps me a lot. It’s about my mindset, the way to play the game & tells me to keep it simple with thinking about the game and also with small technical things which he helps me a lot with. Playing with aggression is important but also to just keep calm in certain situations and to now see how next game goes,” Brevis had said in a pre-match chat with broadcasters ahead of the match against LSG on Saturday.
As for the match, Mumbai Indians went on to lose their 6th successive match of the season. With zero wins since the start of the campaign, Rohit Sharma & Co. are placed bottom of the points table.
