The Kashmir Files actor Darshan Kumaar reveals he watched videos of 700 affected families: ‘I couldn’t speak a word after those’

The Kashmir Files released on March 11, 2022, and it opened to an overwhelming response not just by the critics, but also the audience, tinsel town natives and prominent political figures. The Vivek Agnihotri directorial become the first film after the pandemic to cross the Rs 250 crore mark and the cast was highly appreciated for their performance. In a recent conversation, the lead actor Darshan Kumaar opened up about his role in the historical thriller.
Darshan essayed the role of Krishna Pandit who lost both his parents and his brother to the killings amidst Kashmir insurgency. Krishna, through the course of the film, learns about his roots, its importance and the heinous crime committed against not just his family but also other Kashmiri Hindus. Darshan shares the screen with senior actors like Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty.
Speaking about his role and how he was cast for the film, Darshan revealed that the director Vivek and actress Pallavi Joshi made him watch 700 videos of those affected by the genocide. He shared that he was speechless after watching the videos and that’s when Vivek and Pallavi told him that they want him as the lead in the film.
“The casting director called me, and said Pallavi Joshi ji and Vivek Agnihotri ji wanted to meet me. They showed me the heart-wrenching stories of 700 families, I couldn’t speak a word after those videos. Then they gave me the script and said ‘we want to cast you as the lead’,” he told Hindustan Times.
He further opened up about the criticism the film received by some sections of the society. Darshan urged that these people should first watch the film and then make an opinion.
“This film is a brutally honest based on a true event. It is not against any caste, party or community. We always talk about humanity and justice. Our film shows what happens when there is no humanity. I will request those people to first watch the film and then decide,” he added.
Apart from The Kashmir Files, Darshan has been seen in films like NH10 with Anushka Sharma, Mary Kom and he was also a part of Bobby Deol’s web series Aashram.
