Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season to forget so far. With 5 defeats from as many matches, MI are placed at the last spot. CSK had kicked off the tournament with 4 back-to-back defeats and snapped their losing streak in their previous fixture.
Every defeat at this stage will hurt their chances and both the teams will aim to avoid any blip going ahead. MI’s and CSK’s performances have left their fans surprised as they are among most succesful IPL teams. MI have lifted the IPL title five times while CSK are four-time IPL Champions.
Amid this, former India opener Aakash Chopra has shared his take on the two teams. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra opined that both the teams have ordinary bowling attacks and that he doesn’t see them going through this year.
“Both CSK and MI have ordinary bowling attacks. Although they have come back from a similar situation, if you keep on playing the same team hoping something suddenly will change then that’s not possible. MI will need to change their XI while CSK bowling needs to click. But I don’t see them going through,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
MI don’t have experienced bowlers who can back Jasprit Bumrah and deliver consistently. In the batting department too, the five-time IPL Champions are looking for more contributions from captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
CSK have a fresh Indian bowling attack in the absence of Deepak Chahar. With Chahar confirmed to miss the season, CSK’s struggles are likely to continue. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dry run with the bat has also impacted the team’s chances. He played a key role in CSK’s title win in 2021 and won the Orange Cap.
MI next face Lucknow Super Giants on April 16. A defeat in that fixture would push MI closer to being eliminated from the tournament early. On the other hand, CSK will square off against Gujarat Titans on Sunday (April 17).
