Continuing her attack on the government’s economic policies, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday said that the country’s economic condition is getting from bad to worse and questioned if states would be able to pay salaries of staff members in the coming days.
“The rise in fuel prices is affecting the lives of people. I request the Centre to control the fuel prices and temporarily stop collecting toll-tax. I also request the central government for the extension of GST time limit for another five years,” Mamata Banerjee said.
“Country’s economic situation getting bad to worse; I doubt if states will be able to pay salaries in coming days,” she further added. Continuing her tirade against the Centre, Mamata Banerjee urged the government to pay states their GST dues. She also targeted the government over the raids against the opposition leaders and claimed that government should find ways to rein in prices instead of using the CBI and ED to harass politicians.
India’s condition is worse than Sri Lanka: Mamata Banerjee
Recently, Banerjee had likened the economic condition of the country to Sri Lanka and drawn flak from the BJP. On Tuesday, Banerjee had said that ‘Sri Lanka’s economic condition is bad, but India’s condition is worse than Sri Lanka’.
The BJP was quick to react and BJP spokesperson Sanju Verma silenced Banerjee by throwing economic data at the West Bengal CM. “Sri Lanka’s annual Exports are $15 billion, while India’s $418 billion. Sri Lanka’s Food Inflation is 32%, while India’s is 5.85%,” Verma said.
