Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot urged people to maintain peace and asked them to stay away from the miscreants after communal clashes broke out in Rajasthan’s Karauli.
On Saturday evening, stones were pelted at a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate the Hindu new year after which authorities had to clamp curfew, suspend the internet and deploy 600 police personnel.
Around two dozen people were injured in the violence while 30 people were detained with Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Hawa Singh Ghumariya saying the situation is under control.
“I have spoken to DG police. Police and administration are present there. I appeal to the public to maintain peace and stay away from miscreants who are present in every religion,” Gehlot told ANI.
The Chief Minister said that he has directed the police to identify the anti-social elements.
Taking to Twitter, Gehlot appealed to help maintain law and order.
Governor Kalraj Mishra has directed Director General of Police ML Lather over the phone and inquired about the situation.
Expressing concern over the violence, Governor took detailed information from the Director-General of Police about the action taken to control the situation.
He has also appealed to the local people to maintain peace and harmony while exercising restraint.
Many people were injured in the incident, of which 27 were treated and sent home, 10 are undergoing treatment in the hospital and 3 seriously injured were referred to Jaipur. Among the injured people four were police officers.
More than 600 policemen including 50 police officers deployed in Karauli.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Satish Poonia blamed the Congress government for the incident saying the grand old party’s appeasement policy is responsible for it. He also called it a planned attack.
