Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a big blow before the start of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign as their pace-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the initial phase of the tournament. Chahar suffered a quadriceps injury during the 3rd T20I against West Indies and couldn’t complete his spell.
He is recovering from his injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is expected to play his part in the tournament. As per The Times of India, Chahar could be available from April 25. The report suggests that he will be released from NCA in two weeks.
Once fully fit, Chahar will land in CSK’s camp and will bolster their pace attack. The Yellow Army doesn’t have an experienced Indian pacer and are in desperate need of Chahar. The swing bowler has the knack of getting early wickets and has often done the job for CSK.
His skills saw him getting huge interest during the IPL 2022 mega auction and CSK spent a huge sum of Rs 14 crore on him. But his injury ruled him out of the initial phase of the tournament. In Chahar’s absence, CSK have played Tushar Deshpande and Mukesh Choudhary.
Dwaine Pretorius and Adam Milne are two overseas pacers who have made their CSK debut so far. Chahar’s absence is hurting CSK and the franchise would hope that he is available soon.
With 2 defeats from as many matches, CSK are placed at the 7th spot in the points table. In their previous fixture, they failed to defend a big target of 211.
Ravindra Jadeja is leading CSK in IPL 2022 as MS Dhoni had relinquished the top job before the start of the season. The senior all-rounder hasn’t made a memorable start to the tournament and would hope to turn the team’s fortunes as the tournament progresses.
