Gautam Adani regains richest Asian tag with $100 bn wealth, beats Mukesh Ambani

Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani is Asia’s richest man once again with a net worth of $100 billion, surpassing Mukesh Ambani, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
With this latest change on the index, Adani is now the tenth richest person in the world, while Reliance Industries chairman Ambani slipped to the 11th position globally with $99 billion wealth.
The 59-year-old founder of Adani Group controls companies ranging from ports and aerospace to thermal energy and coal, and now has a net worth of $100 billion.
In the last few months, Adani and Ambani have been swapping positions for the top spot on the billionaires index.
Ambani, who also happens to be the richest Asian at present, controls Reliance Industries, owner of the world’s largest oil refining complex. His other businesses include a 4G wireless network across India.
According to the 2022 M3M Hurun Global Rich List published recently, Adani saw his net worth swell by USD 49 billion in the year 2021 – higher than that of top three global billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault.
In the past one week, the stock of Adani Group edibles oil company Adani Wil-mar has surged 30 per cent. It has zoomed 136 per cent from its issue price of Rs 230 per share. Adani Wilmar had raised Rs 3,600 crore through an initial public offer.
Since Russia-Ukraine broke out, shares of the company have been rising. The expectation is that India’s sunflower imports will be hit as both Russia and Ukraine are significant suppliers of sunflower oil to India.
