After playing a crucial cameo in Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opening game against Punjab Kings (PBKS), wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will spearhead the middle-order of the Faf du Plessis-led side against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday. Karthik, who left KKR to join RCB for the 15th edition of the cash-rich league has poked fun at his former teammate Varun Chakaravarthy ahead of the blockbuster clash.
Senior batter Karthik joked that he is ready to sledge Chakaravarthy in Tamil if the mystery spinner comes out to bat for the Shreyas Iyer-led side in match No.6 of the IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy. Former KKR skipper Karthik was released by former IPL winners ahead of the mega auction. The Knight Riders retained spinner Chakaravarthy ahead of the mega auction for the 15th season of the cash-rich league.
“If Varun Chakravarthy comes to bat, definitely try and give him a mouthful in Tamil. The only thing I will miss from KKR to here is the fact that I can’t speak in Tamil to anybody, especially the bowlers. Everybody is either English-speaking or Hindi-speaking,” Karthik said while speaking in an interview ahead of the high-voltage clash.
Speaking ahead of RCB’s meeting with KKR in the world’s richest T20 league, Karthik recalled his memorable stint with the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise. RCB roped in the veteran batter for INR 5.50 crore at the mega auction. Karthik’s former franchise KKR had refused to bid for the former skipper at the mega auction. “I have been there for a good four years. Terrific memories in those four years. I enjoyed the team. A lot of respect for everybody in the backroom staff, the CEO is somebody who is very close to me on a very personal level,” said Karthik, who smashed a quick-fire 32 off 14 balls in RCB’s IPL 2022 opener against Punjab.
