Anupam Kher hits back at those accusing The Kashmir Files of being political: ‘PM Modi’s biopic would’ve done Rs 1000 crore then’

Anupam Kher’s The Kashmir Files has broken many records at the box-office ever since its release on March 11, 2022. The film, which is based on the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits back in 1990, has sparked several discussions across the country. Though the movie has become a blockbuster and has earned more than Rs 200 crore in India, the film has been alleged to be a political propaganda by many people. Recently, during an exclusive chat  the lead actor of The Kashmir Files, Anupam Kher talked about the film at length.
The veteran actor was questioned by Navika Kumar about the film being political as his wife Kirron Kher is in BJP and the movie received endorsement and support from the Bharatiya Janta Party. Anupam Kher replied, “Not at all. This film is being made political because ‘khisiyani billi khamba noche’ (an embarrassed person who tends to vent his/her feeling by quarrelling).”
The Kashmir Files actor further added, “If political patronage would have made any film successful, then the biopic of Prime Minister would have done a business of Rs 1000 crore.” “Ask the people who are sending you messages, ask the people who are painting the posters of The Kashmir Files with blood, it has connected through the whole world. No political party or Prime Minister or President can promote a film which is not made with truth. If the film has done a business of more than Rs 200 crore in 13 days, then somewhere it has touched the chord”, he added.
The actor also replied to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s reaction to the government asking The Kashmir Files to be made tax-free. Anupam said that Delhi CM’s statement has hurt many people and told, “He should not come across a caricature, he is a real person, he is an educated person, he is an IRS officer. Ek anpad gawaar aadmi bhi aisi baat nahi karta hai.”
The Kashmir Files has done a business of Rs 211.83 crore in India and Rs 236.70 crore worldwide till now, according to the latest box-office update of the film. Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the movie also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumaar in pivotal roles.
