SP chief Akhilesh Yadav resigns from Lok Sabha membership; Azam Khan gives up his LS seat as well

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav tendered his resignation from the membership of Lok Sabha. He was recently elected as the MLA from the Karhal seat in Uttar Pradesh.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister was seen in Parliament going to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s office to give his resignation. Apparently, he will now assume the MLA position and focus on the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
He met with LS Speaker Birla and handed over his resignation from his membership of the House.
Meanwhile, another senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan today resigned from his Lok Sabha membership. He had recently won from the Rampur seat in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
In the recently-concluded Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party (SP) once again finished runner up to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but managed to increase its standing in the state significantly.
The BJP retained power by winning 255 seats while SP managed to bag 111 seats, an increase of 64 seats in comparison to the 2017 UP polls.
With the increase in its numbers in the state Assembly, the Samajwadi Party is looking to invest itself more in state politics than national. Hence, senior party leaders like Azam Khan and Akhilesh Yadav have given up their Lok Sabha memberships.
