Vivek Agnihotri slams IMDB for switching rating for The Kashmir Files, says, ‘This is unethical’

Internet Movie Database or IMDB that holds information related to films, television series, streaming content as well as film cast, production crew and biographies has changed its method of calculating rating for Hindi release The Kashmir Files. The rating page for the Vivek Agnihotri directorial reads, ‘Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied.’
Currently, the rating for The Kashmir Files stands at 8.3 with 144,000 votes. In the ratings page, while 94.3 per cent people gave the Anupam Kher starrer a 10 rating, 4.3 per cent gave it a 1 rating. Only 0.7 percent of the audience gave it a 9 rating. On its release, The Kashmir Files has received unprecedented response from the audience, with it maintaining a perfect score over the weekend. However, the film saw a dip today in IMDB due to the reported unusual voting activity.
A user took to Twitter to point this out, as he shared, “The @IMDb page of #TheKashmirFiles says: “Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied”. They have themselves dipped the ratings @vivekagnihotri”.
Vivek Agnihotri reacted to the tweet, writing, “THIS IS UNUSUAL AND UNETHICAL.”
For the unversed, the film, which stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar and Mithun Chakraborty, among others is based on the exodus and killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley in the 1990s.
The Kashmir Files garnered Rs 27 crore on its opening weekend, with film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeting, “#TheKashmirFiles shows phenomenal growth. Grows 325.35% on Day 3 [vis-à-vis Day 1]. New records metros + mass belt, multiplexes + single screens, the *opening weekend biz* is TERRIFIC across the board… Fri 3.55 cr, Sat 8.50 cr, Sun 15.10 cr. Total: ₹27.15 cr. #India biz.”
Actor Darshan Kumaar too tweeted his thanks to the audience for their love and support, revealing that the film’s worldwide box office collection is Rs 31.6 crore.
