Legendary singer Bappi Lahiri breathed his last in Mumbai’s hospital on February 15. The late singer, fondly called the ‘Disco King’ died due to obstructive sleep apnea at the age of 69. It will be almost a month to his demise, but the void he left in the Entertainment industry and the heart’s of his fans will never be filled.
With a long-running successful career, Lahiri tasted stardom like no other, but he was always denoted as the most grounded person ever in the showbiz. He was especially close to his son Bappa Lahiri. Even now when he talks about his late father, he gets very emotional and often breaks down.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Bappa opened up dealing with grief after the demise of Bappi Da. He even shared the last words the late singer told him before he left for the US with his family.
Bappa went to the US on December 3, 2021. He had come in April 2021 but Bappi Da kept requesting him to stay back. Sharing the same he revealed, “I was going back in July, he said ek mahina ruk jao, then it was my nephew’s birthday and he said aur ruk jao, then it was my son’s birthday and then mine.’
Bappa revealed that every time he held him back and stopped him from going back, he told ETimes. Bappa eventually left on December 3. He told him that he (Bappi) would be coming to the US soon. But after a couple of months, he was admitted to the hospital.
“While in the hospital, he kept calling out my name. And I was making plans to come to India,” Bappa was further quoted.
Bappa further spoke about how Bappi was sad while he was in the hospital, “He had told me that humko bahut kasht hoga if anything happened because he loved us so much. I think kasht unko bhi bahut ho raha hoga because he was so attached to us.”
It certainly is a difficult time for the Lahiri family as they try to cope with this irreparable loss. When Bappa was asked about his favourite song of his late father he said, “Inteha ho gayi, intezaar ki.”
