Tech major Microsoft will come up with its largest India data center region in Hyderabad, it announced on Monday. The center will be established at an investment of over Rs 15,000 crore over a period of 15 years.
For the same, Microsoft has acquired 3 land parcels in Hyderabad for around Rs 275 crore, Economic Times quoted two people in the know of the matter as saying. 22-acre land has been acquired in Mekaguda for around Rs 40 crore, 41-acre in Shadnagar for Rs 164 crore and 52-acre in Chandenvelly for Rs 72 crore.
Microsoft’s fourth such data center region in the country after Pune, Mumbai and Chennai, will augment the company’s cloud capabilities and capacity to support those working across the country, Microsoft India president Anant Maheshwari said.
“The new data center in Hyderabad will deliver advanced data security and cloud solutions that will help enterprises, start-ups, developers, education, and government institutions,” Microsoft said in a statement.
Among other things, the new center will offer the entire Microsoft portfolio across Cloud, data solitons, artificial intelligence (AI), productivity tools and customer relationship management with advanced data security for enterprises, startups, developers, education and government institutions.
Meanwhile, Telangana IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao shared that the tech giant’s data center investment will be the second largest FDI in the state after Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) $2.77 billion FDI.
According to IDC, Microsoft’s data center regions in India have contributed $9.5 billion revenues to the economy between 2016 and 2020. In addition to this, nearly 1.5 million jobs were also added to the economy including 1.69 lakh new skilled IT jobs.
