Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubati Kathiawadi was released this Friday, February 25 and created quite a buzz online. Minting approximately Rs 10.5 crore on day one, the film has certainly given cine-goers a reason to be happy. With Alia Bhatt headlining the movie, celebs, critics and the audience have heaped praise on the actress for her performance in the film.
And now, even Telugu star Samantha Ruth Prabhu couldn’t help but appreciate Alia’s dialogues and expressions. Taking to Instagram Stories, Samantha shared a still from the film and called the SLB directorial a “masterpiece.” She wrote, “#GangubaiKathiawadi A masterpiece!! @aliabhatt Words aren’t enough to describe your performance. Every single dialogue and expression will be etched in my mind forever.”
Alia went all out with the promotions of the film and visited several cities to talk about her movie. The actress even represented the film at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival with SLB for the world premiere. At the Berlinale, she spoke about wanting to work with Bhansali and auditioning for Black at the age of 9 but getting rejected.
Many celebs including Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar, Ananya Panday, Sara Ali Khan, Javed Akhtar and many more couldn’t help but praise Alia’s “magical” performance. The movie is based on the story of Gangubai Harjivandas, whose life was documented in a chapter of the book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, written by S. Hussain Zaidi. It depicts the rise of a young girl who becomes Gangubai – a madame in the red light area of Kathiawadi.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Samantha has several films in the pipeline. She will be seen in Vijay Sethupathi’s Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal alongside Nayanthara. A teaser of the film, which was released recently, grabbed much attention. She will later be seen in Shaakuntalam, the first poser of which went viral as soon as the actress shared it on social media. It is a mythological drama, which has been written and directed by Gunasekhar and is based on the popular play Shakuntala by Kalidas.
Later, Samantha will star in Yashoda with Unni Mukundan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.
Alia, on the other hand, will be seen as Sita in SS Rajamouli’s RRR co-starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR and Ajay Devgn. Next, she has Brahmastra in her kitty with Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Akkineni Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy.
