Amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday said that India wants peace to prevail. Addressing a political rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh’s Bairiya, the Union Minister said that India is the only nation that has never attacked any country, asserting that everyone should follow this principle for world peace.
“India is the only nation that has never attacked or usurped an inch of any other country’s land. We believe everyone should follow this principle for world peace,” Singh said.
Speaking at the rally, he lauded the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making India a strong nation. “India is no longer a weak country, it has emerged as a strong nation in the world. Words are not sufficient to appreciate PM Modi for his role,” Singh said.
He further promised the people free gas cylinders in Diwali and Holi if the BJP government comes back to power again in Uttar Pradesh. “If you form our government in the state, then I would like to tell you that Yogi Adityanath’s government will give you one gas cylinder free of cost on Holi and Deewali,” Singh told the people in Bairiya.
Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest number of assembly constituencies in India at 403, is witnessing Assembly elections. The state is currently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While the incumbent Yogi Adityanath-led government is trying to retain power, the Opposition parties, including Samajwadi Party (SP), Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), are making all possible efforts to rule the country’s biggest and politically important state.
The Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh is taking place in seven phases between February 10 and March 7. The election result will come on March 10 along with other poll-bound states – Goa, Punjab, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
