One of the major themes of Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa-starrer Gehraiyaan is infidelity. Still mostly considered to be a taboo subject among the indian audience, Gehraiyaan sees Deepika’s character sufocating in a six-year-old relationship and soon starst having an affair with her cousin’s fiance.
Gehraiyaan that has been directed by Shakun Batra, also has Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor in pivotal roles. The film, which had a direct-to-OTT release on Amazon Prime, has been met with general good reviews, though some have questioned the pace of the plot.
Now, in an interview with We Are Yuvaa, Gehraiyaan star Deepika opened up on whether in today’s world, cheating is even a big deal anymore. Replying to the person, Deepika said that she personally does not endorse it.
The actress further added, ” But having said that, I don’t think I am anyone to judge someone else’s relationship, whether it has happened or not happened, or whether they are okay with it or not okay with it. Relationships are truly based on connections and when you have lost that connection in itself, then there is no relationship.”
The actress also opened up on emotional and physical infidelity, drawing parallels between the two and explaining which is more hurtful and why.
“Sometimes maybe physical attraction is still sort of a passing thing. I think as long as you have respect for the other person, I think that’s really important. I mean, monogamy, physical attraction, sure, it’s one thing but I would be far more disappointed if there was emotional infidelity. Not to say that physical infidelity is okay but emotional infidelity is far more hurtful than anything else,” she said.
In an earlier interview, Deepika had in fact ppened up about catching her ex-boyfriend who had strayed, red-handed. The actress had revealed that she had really wanted to believe in him, but having caught him, it took her a while to get out.
