Mumbai Indians’ new recruit Tim David hails ‘world-class player’ Rohit Sharma; excited to bat alongside Pollard

It has been a whirlwind last 12 months for the hard-hitter from Singapore, Tim David. In the last few months, David has become a T20 globetrotter in the truest sense having played all over the world across various leagues.

David was picked as a replacement player in the second half of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 for Lahore Qalandars where he played a few quickfire cameos. He then represented Surrey in the domestic one-day competition, followed by a short stint in The Hundred for the eventual champions Southern Brave.

After which David featured in the Caribbean Premier League for Saint Lucia Kings, followed by a call-up in the IPL. He played just one game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the second half of IPL 2021. However, his stocks are on the rise since then after his successful season for the Hobart Hurricanes in Big Bash League (BBL). Currently, David is in Pakistan plying his trade for Multan Sultans in PSL 7 and has aggregated 251 runs in 10 games at a mammoth strike rate of 199, including a couple of match-winning knocks.

David will form an explosive combination in the IPL with West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard in the middle-order as his recent exploits let the Mumbai Indians splurge INR 8.25 crore on the all-rounder.

The 25-year old was excited at the prospect of batting alongside the destructive West Indian all-rounder saying that if they two got going, they could indeed take a few games away from the opponents. Speaking to mumbaiindians.com, David said, “It is an exciting idea to bat with him. Polly is someone I have admired for his power-hitting and have looked at some of his innings to see how I can do that myself. If we could get going in the middle and death overs, we could take a few games away.”

Not just Pollard, David is also eager to spend some time with ‘world-class player’ and captain of the side, Rohit Sharma. “Rohit Sharma is a world-class player. He just looks so effortless when he bats, it’s very admirable. It is a huge bonus to be able to spend time with class players and try to pick their brains a little bit,” he further added.

Like Tymal Mills, David will be reuniting with his Southern Brave head coach Mahela Jayawardene at MI and hoped that the former Sri Lanka batsman’s advice can help him take his game to the next level.

Not just Rohit and Pollard, David will be part of an exciting batting line-up of MI, which also features Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, in addition to the bowling all-rounders Daniel Sams and Fabian Allen.
