‘Did BJP demand proof from Rahul of being Rajiv Gandhi’s son’: Case filed against Assam CM Sarma in Telangana

The Telangana Police have registered a case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in connection with his comments against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The case was filed after a complaint was registered by state Congress unit chief and Member of Parliament (MP), Revanth Reddy.

Questioning Rahul Gandhi for demanding proof of India’s surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2016 and airstrike in 2019, Sarma had stoked a huge controversy for stating whether BJP had ever demanded proof of him being the “son of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi”.

Addressing mediapersons in Uttarakhand on February 11, Sarma accused the Congress of doing negative politics and slammed it for demanding proof of the efficacy of the COVID vaccines and the surgical strikes.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had also heavily criticised Sarma and demanded PM Narendra Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda to sack his Assam counterpart for his remarks on Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing a press conference, Rao sought proof from the Modi government over surgical strikes.

“There is nothing wrong in Rahul Gandhi asking for proof of surgical strikes. What was wrong. Even I am asking. Let the governmnet of India show as there are apprehensions amongst the people,” the Telangana CM said.

Strongly reacting to KCR’s statement, Sarma said such statements shows their mindset.

“I believe that questioning the Army whether they have carried out the surgical strike or not is the biggest crime. He (Telangana CM KCR) got agitated by my comment on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi but not by Rahul Gandhi’s comment on our Army,” the Assam chief minister said.

The National Students’ Union of India also protested against Sarma’s “father-son” remark targeting party leader Rahul Gandhi. The Congress-affiliated NSUI on February 14 took out a protest march to Assam Bhawan.
