It’s the season of love, and our favourite South Korean celebrity couple Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin have just announced their engagement on February 10. Fans have been waiting for the actors to reunite since they co-starred in the blockbuster movie Crash Landing On You. The joyous news comes a year after the couple revealed their relationship.
Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin are among the region’s highest-paid actors as leading superstars of the South Korean film industry. How about examining each of their assets and calculating their total net worth?
Son Ye-jin is reportedly worth over US$20 million (S$26.9 million) after working in the entertainment industry for more than 20 years.
Her primary source of income is her acting career, which pays her $42,000 per episode. She also makes money as the face of luxury house Valentino and Korean skincare brands Neuramis, Vanav, and Manyo, as well as through endorsement deals.
The actress is also an astute real estate investor. Son is said to have paid 16 billion won (S$17.9 million) for a six-story property in Seoul’s Gangnam area in 2021.
She is thought to have paid 4 billion won in cash for the property and loaned the rest amount.
Plastic surgery clinics, make-up boutiques, and beauty salons are all located in the same building. The rent is expected to be roughly 45 million won, with a 50 million won deposit.
Son invests in art and trendy furniture in addition to real estate.
The actress brought the cast of the variety show Master In The House into her home a few years ago, which was filled with pricey designer pieces selected from all over the world. Her furnishings was estimated to be worth more than US$185,000 at a rough estimate.
Meanwhile, it appears that Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin have the same net worth, with the latter estimated to be worth US$21 million. He is the sixth richest South Korean actor, earning a whopping US$83,900 per episode.
Hyun Bin, like his fianceé, gets a major portion of his money from brand endorsements. He is the face of several brands, including Loro Piana, Tom Ford Beauty, Omega, and others.
The actor comes from a wealthy family who owns and operates HB Family Holdings. The company constructs buildings in strategic sites throughout Seoul.
In 2013, the actor paid 4.8 billion won for a building in Cheongdam-dong. He also spent 2.7 billion won converting the old building into a community centre.
The actor paid US$4.3 million for a penthouse in the Walkerhill Podoville housing estate in Achiul Village, Gyeonggi province, in 2020. Many believe the couple’s 2,600 sq ft penthouse is intended to be their marital residence.
The Crash Landing On You pair is worth a total of US$41 million.
That, however, is insufficient to claim the title of Korea’s wealthiest celebrity duo. Singer Rain and actress Kim Tae-hee, who reputedly own an astonishing US$72 million in real estate, presently hold that position.
Nonetheless, Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin are unquestionably a strong couple in their own right. The wedding is something we’re all looking forward to!
