ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Tickets for blockbuster India-Pakistan clash at MCG sold out within hours

With no bilateral contests between the two nations, the fans only get to see the blockbuster India-Pakistan matches during the multi-nation tournaments. Due to COVID-19, the T20 World Cup was postponed from 2020 to 2021, hence the fans have gotten an opportunity to witness the two neighbours lock horns against each other twice in as many years.

Pakistan registered a thumping win against India in Dubai in the T20 World Cup 2021 clash but their campaign was cut short by the eventual champions, Australia in the semi-finals. While Team India will be looking to avenge the thrashing they received last year, the fans have made sure, they go in numbers to witness the two sides in action.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) opened the ticket sales for all the matches of the upcoming tournament in Australia and no surprise, the ones for the India-Pakistan match were sold out within hours. Slated to take place at one of the largest cricket stadiums in the world – Melbourne Cricket Ground – the tickets were sold within just five hours. Announcing the opening of the ticket sales, an ICC release said, “Tickets may still be available through the Official Hospitality and ICC Travel and Tours Programmes. Alternatively, you can join the Waitlist for this match and receive email updates with details of any ticket releases for a specific match.”

The tickets went on sale at 6:30 AM IST on Monday, February 7 and at 11:30 AM, a statement on the ICC website read, ‘public ticket allocation’ for India Vs Pakistan has been exhausted.’

After a poor campaign in the 2021 edition, the Men in Blue will be looking to make amends under the new skipper Rohit Sharma and break Team India’s trophy drought. Since 2013 the senior men’s team hasn’t won an ICC title as they have lost in the semi-finals on three occasions while losing at the final hurdle in T20 World Cup 2014, 2017 Champions Trophy and in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand last year.
