West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was re-elected as the TMC chairperson today after the party held its organisational elections after a gap of five years.

According to TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee, Banerjee was declared elected without a contest as no other leader entered the fray.

“A total of 48 proposers and seconders had submitted nominations in favour of Mamata Banerjee. As there was no other nomination for the post of chairperson, Mamata Banerjee has been re-elected unopposed,” Chatterjee, the returning officer for the organisational polls, said.

‘If TMC can defeat CPI(M) in Bengal then it can also defeat BJP nationally’

After her election, the West Bengal Chief Minister said that TMC wants all regional parties to come together and defeat BJP in 2024.

Our motto is the BJP has to be defeated, the CM said adding that if TMC can defeat CPI(M) in West Bengal then it can also defeat BJP nationally.

She further accused Congress of helping the BJP to win the polls in Meghalaya and Chandigarh.

We want those who are opposed to BJP should come on one platform, but if someone wants to sit back because of ego then we can’t be blamed, she said.

‘Will fight against the BJP alone if needed’

We will fight against the BJP alone if needed, she said.

She also called Padma awards politicised and that the narrative of politics has changed over the years.

Addressing party workers at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Mamata said she has built a party unit in Goa and in Tripura the vote percentage is over 20 per cent.

“We have to make Bengal stronger in the next 2 years so that we get all 42 seats in 2024 LS polls. We have to chase BJP away,” she said.

Hinting at uniformity in TMC, the Bengal CM said she will do her first working Committee meeting in New Delhi.
