Prime Minister Narendra Modi  inaugurated the Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav se Swarnim Bharat Ki Ore programme of the Brahma Kumaris organisation. Addressing the event via video conference, the PM said the programme would serve as an inspiration to the nation.

“The nation’s progress is our progress. The nation exists because of us and we exist because of the nation. This feeling has become a strength for Indians in building a new India. Everyone’s efforts are responsible for the progress which the nation is making today,” said PM Modi while addressing the event.

The PM said a system is being created today where there is no scope for discrimination. The society should stand on the foundations of equality and social justice, the PM said further, adding that “we are witnessing the emergence of an India whose thinking and approach are innovative and decisions are progressive”.

The PM recalled the contribution of women in India’s awakening and mentioned the names of Rani Lakshmibai, Ahilyabai Holkar, Savitribai Phule.

‘Amrit Kaal not for dreaming while sleeping’

The PM stressed in his address that it is our duty to keep our culture and civilisation alive and also modernise technology, infrastructure, education and health systems.

“This time of Amrit Kaal is not for dreaming while sleeping, but for fulfilling resolutions by waking up. The coming 25 years are the time for hard work, sacrifice and austerity. The period of 25 years is to get back what our society has lost in hundreds of years of slavery,” the PM said further.

Modi said in the last 75 years since Independence, we have only talked about our rights. These years have been consumed in fighting for our rights, struggling and wasting time.

“The talk about rights to an extent and for some time can be justified but India has been weakened by the fact that we forgot our duties. We have not prioritised our responsibilities over these 75 years,” the PM rued.

“We have to light the lamp of responsibilities and obligation inside the heart of every citizen of the country. Then only the country will reach new heights,” the PM stated.

‘This is not politics…’

The PM requested that Indian organisations that have an international presence, should work to quell rumours being spread about India. They should ensure that the truth is made known.

“We are celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. It becomes our responsibility that the world should get to know about India in the correct manner,” the PM said.

He pointed out that efforts have been made the spoil the reputation of India internationally.

“We cannot shrug off our responsibility by terming this as politics. This is not politics, it is about the reputation of the country,” PM Modi said.
