Rahul Gandhi mocks ‘teleprompter glitch’ during PM Narendra Modi’s WEF summit address; BJP hits back

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi,  mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter’s teleprompter reportedly malfunctioned during his speech at the World Economic Forum’s Davos Summit on Monday. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s WEF speech and said “Even the teleprompter could not take so many lies”. Many Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, however, countered Gandhi’s claims and said that the technical glitch was on part of the WEF.

On Monday, PM Narendra Modi addressed the World Economic Forum Davos Agenda Summit through video conferencing. At a certain point during the address, PM Modi stopped talking reportedly due to the teleprompter malfunction. Moments later, PM resumed the speech after the issue was resolved.

Glitch at WEF end: BJP leaders

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to slam the Congress party for Gandhi’s remarks and many leaders of the ruling party pointed out that the tech glitch was at WEF’s end.

“Don’t those getting excited at the tech glitch not realise that the problem was at WEF’s end? They were not able to patch PM, so requested him to start again, which is evident in the way Klaus Schwab said that he will again give a short introduction and then open up the session,” said BJP national secretary (Youth) Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga.

Some others shared a video of the summit and said that PM Modi’s WEF speech started without an English translator, as a result of which the PM was interrupted by the coordinator. He resumed the address after Klaus Schwab said that those attending the summit were able to hear PM Modi’s Davos speech.

In his WEF summit address, PM told the world leaders that it is the best time to invest in India. “India offers a ‘bouquet of hope’ to the world. It includes our trust in democracy; it includes our technology, our temperament, and talent,” PM said in his speech.
