DRS is not 100 percent accurate: Former SA batsman amid Team India’s outburst

Team India’s tour of South Africa ended on a disappointing note for the visitors as they lost the Cape Town Test match to lose the series 2-1. The Virat Kohli-led side had landed in SA with the tag of being the favourites and they kicked off the tour with a big 131-run win in Centurion.

Inspired by skipper Dean Elgar, SA made a memorable comeback in the last two Test matches and defeated might India to win the series. The defeat also extended India’s wait to win a series in the rainbow nation.

Apart from the defeat in the 3rd Test match, Team India’s outburst following a DRS call hogged the limelight. The Indian players were upset with DRS saving the day for the SA skipper. The left-arm spinner was trapped in front of the stumps by R Ashwin in the 4th innings of the Test match.

Elgar reviewed the decision and got the decision overturned as the replays showed that the ball was going over the stumps. The Indian players were upset with DRS and their frustrations were caught on the stump mic.

Amid the DRS controversy, former SA batsman Boeta Dippenaar has shared his take on the matter. Speaking to The Times of India, Dippenaar has said that the DRS isn’t 100 perfect accurate.

“I am not convinced that DRS is 100 percent accurate. I have seen one or two deliveries where the ball pitched with an impact with the pad and then the subsequent tracking just didn’t make sense (with) the angle with which the ball proceeded. So, it is always difficult to say. We live in an imperfect world. In my opinion, as a whole, DRS has certainly improved with decision making. They are not giving blatantly wrong decisions that we saw in the past,” he said..

The ICC did not sanction the players following the outburst. But they were warned informally. India next face Sri Lanka in a home series and a few changes are expected to take place following the series defeat.
