‘Don’t want to jinx it’: Chopra reacts after Parthiv shares interesting stat about Bumrah amid 3rd Test vs SA

Speed merchant Jasprit Bumrah was on a roll in South Africa’s 1st innings as the bowling masterclass of the senior pacer pegged the Proteas back in the series decider at Newlands. Bumrah registered one of his best five-wicket hauls in the longest format and the Indian speedster helped Virat Kohli’s men take a slender lead over the Proteas in the 3rd Test match at Capetown on Wednesday.

Bumrah was lauded by the entire cricket fraternity after his memorable five-wicket haul against South Africa restricted the Dean Elgar-led side to 210 in their 1st innings. At a time when members of the cricket fraternity were busy showering praise on Bumrah, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel shared an interesting stat about the pacer’s five-wicket haul.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Parthiv revealed that India have never lost a Test match when Bumrah has bagged a wicket-haul. Parthiv’s tweet soon became the talk of the town on the internet. Responding to Parthiv’s crazy stat, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra shared a noteworthy tweet of his own. “Don’t want to jinx it but India had never lost a Test when Pujara-Rahane had a 100-run partnership too…till the last Test match at Johannesburg,” Chopra tweeted.

Making sure that India take a 13-run lead in the 3rd Test match on Day 2 at Cape Town, Bumrah secured his seventh five-wicket haul while pacers Mohammed Shami (16-4-39-2) and Umesh Yadav (16-3-64-2) shared four wickets to bowl out South Africa for 210 in 76.3 overs.

Bumrah was asked about his sensational performance against the Proteas after Stumps. “There will be doubters and there will be people praising you and that is something that an individual has to decide. I don’t really pay attention to outside noise as it doesn’t really help,” Bumrah said. The 28-year-old is India’s leading wicket-taker in the three-match test series. The Indian speedster has bagged 11 for the visitors.
