With a little more than a month left for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections to begin, the Shiv Sena has indicated that it would be contesting the state polls. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said that his party would be contesting 50-100 seats.

“I will be visiting western Uttar Pradesh tomorrow,” Raut added.

It remains unclear whether the Sena intends to fight the polls in alliance with any other party. No such announcement has been made thus far. It has also not been divulged which seats the party intends to focus on.

Elections for the 403 seat UP Assembly will be held in seven phases between February and March. Polls will be held in 58 seats in the first phase on February 10 and in 55 in the second phase on February 14. Results will be declared on March 10.
