Amid a row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach in Punjab, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that he has briefed Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi about whatever happened in Ferozepur.
Facing criticism over the PM’s security breach, the Punjab chief minister said there was no threat to Prime Minister’s life and he was completely safe.
“There was no threat to the PM here. He was completely safe. No one went near him…I had a conversation with Priyanka Gandhi ji and I had briefed her on whatever happened here,” ANI quoted CM Channi as saying.
“I am tired of asking, what security threat was there PM Ji? There were no protestors within the one km range of the Prime Minister, there were 6000 security personnel, IB, and SPG for PM’s security. What danger could have been?” the Punjab chief minister added.
Akhilesh, the former CM of Uttar Pradesh, was reacting to Wednesday’s incident in Punjab when PM Modi’s convoy was stranded on a flyover due to a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur. He returned from poll-bound Punjab without attending any event, including a rally.
Later, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi addressed a press conference and denied any security lapse or political motive behind it, and said his government is ready for an inquiry.
Meanwhile, Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma called State Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu’s remarks on PM’s security breach unfortunate and dramatic.
“Navjot Singh Sidhu’s statement yesterday was very unfortunate and dramatic. Have you ever seen somebody say ‘thoko taali’ 10 times in the middle of giving a speech? They had put the country in danger. It’s a conspiracy with links to Delhi,” Sharma said
