Punjab CM quashes rumours of rift with Navjot Singh Sidhu, says will ‘follow’ him everywhere

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi  downplayed the reports of a possible rift with Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and said he will follow the cricketer-turned-politician everywhere.

Responding to a question on relationship with Sidhu, CM Charanjit Singh Channi says, “I have told Sidhu sahab: jithe challeinga challangi tere naal, ticktan do lae layin (I follow you wherever you will go).”

“I will continue to work with him,” he asserted.

Channi’s comments have come a day after he took a veiled dig at Sidhu asking policemen not to bother about who says what and saying criminals wet their pants on seeing them.

Sidhu while praising two party leaders had recently said they make policemen “wet their pants”.

He, however, later clarified that his remark should not be taken literally as it’s a way of saying that the Congress leaders “wield authority”.

Yesterday, during a function in Jalandhar, Channi without taking any names told police personnel to perform their duty irrespective of who says what.

“There may be 100 people saying anything against me but I am moving forward with positive thinking. I have to work for the welfare of common people and likewise our police force too has to work for their welfare,” he said.

He said if any criminal element raises an evil eye against the police force, or if anyone speaks against them and uses any wrong language, then he considers it being done against him and his government.
