Ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, BJP leader Pranshu Dutt Dwivedi has allegedly threatened the Samajwadi Party (SP) while addressing a rally in Farrukhabad.

Dwivedi, who is the president of the BJP youth wing in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly said if the workers of the saffron party unleash themselves they can “finish off the Samajwadi Party”.

The elections will be held to elect 403 members of the Legislative Assembly in Uttar Pradesh in the month of February to March 2022. The main contest will be between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP).

In the last assembly polls in the state, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged 312 seats, while the SP won 47 seats, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) 19 and Congress could manage to win only seven seats. The rest of the seats were bagged by other candidates.

After the elections, the BJP formed the government in the state with Yogi Adityanath becoming the Chief Minister for the first time. The term of the current assembly elected in 2017 will expire on 14 May 2022.

Akhilesh hits out at Yogi govt

Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has promised a regular and cheap power supply for agricultural, domestic, and industrial purposes if voted to power.

“Had the proposed power plants in Etah and other districts been built, the people of Uttar Pradesh would not have been compelled to buy electricity at the highest rate in the country,” his tweet in Hindi, targeting the BJP government, read.

“When the SP government takes over, we reiterate our resolve to provide more relief than anticipated and regular cheap electricity to agriculture, households, industries and businesses,” he added.
