Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav promised to carry out a caste census to ensure people’s rights on the basis of their population share. In the event that his party gains control of the state, the census will be held within three months, said Yadav.
“We all are accused of snatching someone else’s rights, but things will become clear once the caste census is done,” Yadav said during his ‘Vijay Yatra’ in Mainpuri, his father Mulayam Singh Yadav’s parliamentary constituency, on Tuesday evening.
His party would fulfil all its promises as it had in the past, added Yadav, adding: “Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) is known for mincing no words; his actions speak.”
In an attack on the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yadav alleged that Yogi Adityanath is good only for changing institutions’ colours and names, laying foundation stones and inaugurating already-completed projects. “Do you need a ‘Yogi’ or a ‘Yogya’ government?,” he inquired.
Regarding his recent poll alliance with his estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL), Akhilesh Yadav said, “Since I took chacha wali (uncle’s) party along, BJP’s I-T, CBI and ED cells have become active from Delhi. As elections near, these agencies will become more active because the fear of defeat haunts BJP.”
Yadav, while talking about recent raids at some of the SP leaders’ premises by the income tax department, said, “Samajwadis are not scared of anything ‘jo dar gaya woh mar gaya‘ (one who’s afraid is dead)”.
It is interesting to note that Shivpal’s pictures were on the hoarding and banners, but he was not present at the rally site, although most of his supporters attended the Mainpuri yatra.
Yadav also took a dig at the BJP for staging ‘Jan Vishwas Yatra’ across multiple locations in the state. “The BJP is nervous, which is evident from their yatras held across six different locations in the state against one SP Rath,” he said.
Akhilesh responded to the BJP’s dig at red colour by saying it symbolises “revolution and emotions”.
Furthermore, Akhilesh Yadav said Yogi Adityanath is the first CM to withdraw cases that were filed against him.
“BJP is the only party giving protection to criminals, and the majority of criminals are in this party,” Akhilesh Yadav added.
