Deepika Padukone’s father and former badminton legend Prakash Padukone roots for son-in-law Ranveer Singh’s 83; actor reacts

The hype around Ranveer Singh-starrer 83 is real. The sports biopic was earlier supposed to release in 2020 but was pushed further multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, now, the film has finally gotten an official release date and in another week’s time, it will hit the big screens. Ahead of the release, Ranveer Singh and others from the team have been promoting it actively. We spotted Ranveer with his wife Deepika Padukone, who is not just acting in but also producing the film, at multiple promotional events. 

Not just DP, her father and former badminton legend Prakash Padukone is also rooting for Ranveer’s upcoming film. In a post shared by the lead actor, Padukone can be seen recalling the iconic cricket match of 1983 led by Kapil Dev. In the video, Padukone has called the 1983 match a landmark victory for India as our team won the World Cup against West Indies by 43 runs. Recalling the match, the former badminton player that the victory turned cricket into a religion from sports from people in India. 

Sharing the post, Ranveer called his father-in-law a living legend of badminton and rightly so! His full tweet read: “The Living Legend of Badminton, a World Champion himself & my dear father-in-law Prakash Padukone, cherishes the memories of the 1983 World Cup triumph! @padukoneprakash 83 RELEASING IN CINEMAS ON 24TH DEC, 2021, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. #ThisIs83”

83 is directed by Kabir Khan. The sports biopic is a joint production by Kabir, Deepika Padukone, Vishnuvardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films and 83 Film Ltd. Apart from Ranveer essaying legendary Kapil Dev, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree.

Deepika essays the role of Kapil Dev’s wife, Romi Bhatia. The film is set to hit the theatres on December 24, 2021, and will clash with Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan-starrer Atrangi Re.
