Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that good governance (su-raj) was as important for India as self rule (swaraj). On the second day of his Varanasi visit, Modi attended the 98th-anniversary celebrations of Sadguru Sadafaldeo Vihangam Yog Sansthan at the Swarved Mahamandir and addressed a rally. He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Earlier in the day, Modi had also chaired a meeting with the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states in the city.
Hailing developmental work in his parliamentary constituency, Modi said that the city was “giving a new direction to the country” by embracing the novelty of the old. The development of Banaras, he added, was also having a “positive effect” on visitors. “In comparison to 2014-15, the number of tourists visiting here has doubled in 2019-20. In the 2019-20 COVID-19 period, more than 30 lakh people have come and gone from Babatpur airport alone,’ he said.
Modi who visited Banaras railway station late on Monday night also noted the developmental work that was undertaken there. “The beautification work that has been done in Gaudolia has become a sight to behold,” the BJP Twitter handle quoted him as saying.
Addressing the event at Swarved Mahamandir Dham in Umraha, Modi urged people to take up some resolutions – be given momentum in the next two years – in line with the resolutions of Sadhguru as well as the wishes of the country. j”One resolution can be this – we have to educate the daughter, develop her skills too. Along with their families, those who can take responsibility in the society, they should also take the responsibility of skill development of one or two poor daughters,” he said.
A day earlier, after inaugurating the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Modi had put forth three sankalps for the people of India. “I want three resolutions from you, not for yourself, but for our country – cleanliness (swachhta), creation and innovation (srijan) and continuous efforts to create a self-reliant India,” he had said.
Sadguru gave a mantra during freedom movement – of Swadeshi. Now, the nation has started ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Mission’. Local trade-business and products are being strengthened…local is being made global,” Modi said on Tuesday. During his address, he also touched upon several initiatives that have been undertaken over the last few years.
“Today, the recognition that India’s tradition, culture, and civilization has received on the global level, is a matter of pride and rejoice of each and every Indian,” added CM Yogi Adityanath.
