The Dangal girls are back and this time not as sisters but as extremely pivotal characters in the upcoming film Sam Bahadur. The film is based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw widely known as Sam Manekshaw and Sam Bahadur. Vicky Kaushal will be essaying the titular role. Now, as per a recent post by the cast and production house, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh have joined the cast of the film. While Sanya Malhotra will play the role of Silloo Manekshaw, Field Marshal Sam Bahadur’s wife, Fatima Sana Shaikh will play the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The announcement was made coinciding with director Meghna Gulzar’s birthday. Sharing the news, lead actor Vicky Kaushal posted a picture and wrote, “It’s a very special day for us as we celebrate our director Meghna Gulzar’s birthday and welcome the leading ladies Sanya Malhotra as Silloo Manekshaw and Fatima Sana Shaikh as Smt. Indira Gandhi to the Sam Bahadur family!”
Fatima Sana Shaikh spoke about her role in the movie in a post. She wrote, “A woman who defines courage, power and dignity! It’s with great pride that I am joining the team of Sam Bahadur to depict the role of India’s first female Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. Looking forward to beginning this journey with Meghna ma’am, Vicky, Sanya & RSVP Movies.”
This is the second time Meghna Gulzar will be directing Vicky Kaushal after Raazi.
