Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, lashed out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claiming that he was a ‘liar’ who taxes rich people and provides free electricity to the poor. Addressing a press conference, Sidhu said that this ‘lollipop’ will not work in Punjab.
“Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is a liar, he taxes rich people and provides free electricity in slum areas with that money. Till when you (Kejriwal) are going to provide this “lollipop” to people? This will not work in Punjab,” he said in Amritsar.
Committed to providing all facilities enjoyed by political leaders to common man: Kejriwal
Kejriwal has announced his flagship free-electricity scheme even in poll-bound Punjab. During his address in the state, where the Aam Adami Party (AAP) would be contesting all the 117 seats, Kejriwal has often stressed that his move to announce freebies is justified as the political class enjoys the same benefits by virtue of holding the offices. Kejriwal had recently said that the AAP if voted to power in Punjab, is committed to providing all facilities enjoyed by political leaders to common man.
“People in every district are anxious about electricity bills. Even bills worth thousands are being given to poor people having one fan and two bulbs. Earlier, such was the situation in Delhi also, but now the situation has changed. We will do the same in Punjab. This is my guarantee,” he had said during a press conference.
In the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party emerged as the principal opposition when it managed to bag 20 of thw 117 seats. Congress ousted the Shiromani Akali Dal- BJP government of 10 years and came to power in the state.
