‘India might go back to refusing DRS’: Jimmy Neesham trolls Team India after frustrating day on field vs NZ

Over the last few years, New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham has established himself as one of the most active cricketers on social media. He is known for witty posts in which he regularly takes subtle digs at various members of the cricket fraternity.

His latest post was not kind to Indian fans as he did not waste the opportunity to troll the Indian team after New Zealand’s excellent start to their innings in the first Test at Kanpur. The Kiwis’ opening pair of Will Young and Tom Latham have put on an unbeaten century stand with Ajinkya Rahane’s men struggling to find a way to dismiss them.

Neesham took to Twitter after the end of play on Day 2 and wrote, “If Tommy Latham gets a ton here India might go back to refusing to use DRS at home.

Neesham was referring to an incident where the Decision Review System (DRS) saved Latham after the on-field umpire ruled him out. In the 56th over of the Kiwi innings, India appealed for a caught-behind from a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery which the umpire gave out. However, Latham reviewed the decision and TV replays showed there was no edge.

That turned out to be the second last over of the day as bad light ensured the game was stopped early. New Zealand ended the day at 129-0 but they still trail the hosts by 216 runs.

Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bat first. A half-century by Shubman Gill gave them a good start but a mini-collapse saw India struggle at 145-4. Debutant Shreyas Iyer along with Ravindra Jadeja helped put the innings back on track with a 121-run partnership.

Iyer became the 16th Indian to score a century on Test debut with a knock of 105 whereas Jadeja also chipped in with a half-century. Ashwin also added 38 runs to help India finish with a total of 345.

Neesham was part of New Zealand’s T20I side that lost the three-match series by a 3-0 margin but is not a member of the Test team.
