Adam Zampa takes a dig at Michael Vaughan over ‘I don’t give Australia much chance’ remark

Led by Aaron Finch, the Australian cricket team proved yet again why they are a force to reckon with when it comes to ICC tournaments. Nobody expected Australia to reach the semi-finals and they not only reached the top four, but also defeated New Zealand in the final to clinch their maiden World T20 title.

Wishes continue to pour in from all corners for the Australian squad with players also expressing gratitude to the fans and their family members.

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who had a brilliant run in T20 World Cup 2021, shared a photograph of the Australian players’ celebration and took a dig at former England captain Michael Vaughan who had written off the Aussies.

“I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they’ve struggled. Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional so he will have to have an incredible tournament. But I don’t see the Aussies doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, one of those four and maybe Pakistan because of the conditions,” Vaughan had said on BBC Test Match Special on October 19.

While David Warner was adjudged Man of the Tournament for his 289 runs, many cricket pundits believe it was Zampa – who should have got the award. Zampa was the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker and Australia’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 13 wickets.

Soon after Australia defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup title, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell lauded ‘superstar’ Zampa.

“It was perfect, I was fresh and hitting the ball really well. It was nice to be out there to hit the winning runs. Zampa has been a superstar in this format and ODIs and I had the pleasure of watching him grow into the player he is. To watch him bring all his talent into the international stage has been a pleasure. He’s also fielding well, and in the last three years as a legspinner, there haven’t been any better in the world,” said Maxwell in a post-match presentation.
