Salman Khurshid’s Nainital house vandalised; Congress leader asks ‘am I still wrong to say this can’t be Hinduism’

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s house in Nainital was allegedly vandalised on Monday, amid huge outrage over his comparison between Hindutva and ISIS in his new book.

Khurshid, a former Union minister, has come under sharp criticism for reportedly comparing a “robust version” of Hindutva to the jihadist Islam of terror groups such as ISIS and Boko Haram in his book ‘Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times’.

Sharing the videos of the incident on his Facebook and Twitter handle, the senior Congress leader wrote: “I hoped to open these doors to my friends who have left this calling card. Am I still wrong to say this cannot be Hinduism?”

Criticising the incident, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that the mounting levels of intolerance in politics should be denounced by those in power.

“This is disgraceful.@salman7khurshid is a statesman who has done India proud in international forums &always articulated a moderate, centrist, inclusive vision of the country domestically,” he tweeted.

Right-wing group Hindu Sena on Friday demanded a ban on the book, alleging that Khurshid’s statement harms social integrity and hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Hindu Sena president Vishnu Gupta said the comparison made in the book is an attempt to demonise the Hindu religion.
