In Enforcement Directorate’s ongoing probe in illegal coal mining case assets that were beneficially owned, by Anup Majee Vinay Mishra and his brother Vikas Mishra have been provisionally attached.

The total value of attached assets is worth Rs 9.28 crore. The ED has attached seven land parcels, two flats in Amethi and Kolkata owned by Vinay Mishra and Vikas Mishra whose book value is approximately Rs 48.57 lakh.

“In the second attachment, 20 land parcels and 1 flat situated in West Bengal & Mumbai respectively, owned by Anup Majee and his family members, having book value of Rs 8.8 crore were attached,” said the Enforcement Directorate in a statement on Tuesday.

Last November the CBI had registered a case of illegal coal mining. Taking cognisance of that FIR, the ED started its money-laundering investigation.

On 11th October, the ED got a non-bailable warrant against Vinay Mishra. Vinay Mishra is a suspect in a coal smuggling and cross-border cattle smuggling case. During the probe, the ED arrested Vikas Mishra and Anup Majee. A prosecution complaint has also been submitted in the relevant court.

It has been alleged that Vinay Mishra fled India in December 2020. He reportedly surrendered his Indian nationality and took citizenship of Vanuatu. However, some reports say he is in Dubai.

ED probe shows total proceeds of crime in illegal coal mining is around Rs 1,352 crore. The probe agency has also carried out searches in 69 places in Delhi, NCR, and Kolkata. The total value of assets seized so far is approximately Rs 181.14 crore.
