Rohit Sharma on the cusp of achieving huge milestone as India gear up for Namibia challenge

Rohit Sharma will eye to accomplish a major batting milestone as India prepare for their final league stage fixture of the T20 World Cup 2021. The right-handed batsman has emerged as one of the best batsmen across all formats since being promoted to open the innings and has achieved many milestones so far.

Team India’s white-ball vice-captain will likely achieve another batting milestone on Monday by becoming only the third batsman to score 3000 runs in T20Is. With 2982 runs, Rohit presently sits at the 3rd spot on the elite list. He is just 18 runs short of the 3000-run mark and will join Virat Kohli and Martin Guptill on the list.

The list is topped by Kohli, who has 3227 runs in 94 T20Is. Guptill recently breached the 3000-run mark and has piled up 3087 runs in 106 matches. Rohit, who held the 2nd spot for a long time, can also go on to leapfrog the Kiwi batsman if he plays a big knock.

The India opener averages 32.41 for his tally and has struck 4 centuries, most by any batsman. He has hit 138 sixes and 266 fours. The 34-year-old also excelled on the captaincy in this format and has captained India to 15 wins in 19 matches. Under him, India won the Nidahas Trophy in 2018.

Since Kohli will leave T20I captaincy after the ongoing T20 World Cup, there are high chances of Rohit taking over the charge on a full-time basis and leading the side in the T20 World Cup 2022, which takes place in Australia.

Talking of the ongoing event, the India-Namibia tie can very well be a dead rubber if Afghanistan lose to New Zealand today. The Mohammad Nabi-led side has to defeat NZ in order to keep India’s chances of a place in the semi-final alive. The Men in Blue have 2 wins from 4 matches so far.
