Bypoll results 2021: P Chidambaram says ‘honours are even today’, wonders ‘which way will the wind blow in 2022?’

With the Congress doing well in the Lok Sabha and Assembly bypolls for which results were announced on Tuesday, senior party leader and former union minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said the fight between the BJP and the parties opposed to it isn’t one-sided anymore.

Wondering where could the wind blow in the 2022 elections in various states, Chidambaram noted that “the honours are even” today.

Here is a “thought provoking analysis of the results of by-elections in 30 assembly constituencies — BJP won seven seats and its declared allies won eight seats. Congress won eight seats. Non-BJP parties won seven seats of which only one seat was won by a crypto ally of the BJP, namely YSR Congress”, said the former union finance and home minister.

He further pointed out that the remaining six seats were bagged by parties that are anti-BJP.

“The honours are even today. Which way will the wind blow in 2022?” Chidambaram wondered.

Another Congress leader, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said the bypoll results are a “clear indication” that the “BJP is losing its momentum especially in Hindi heartland” due to the “anti-people policies” of its governments.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi yesterday lauded the Congress’s victory in bypolls as that of its workers. He urged them to continue the fight against hate without fear.

The Congress party also used the bypoll results to take an aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he should shed arrogance, withdraw the three contentious farm laws and end the loot being carried out via high petrol and diesel prices.

Next year, Assembly Elections are due in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
