‘I may be wrong, but…’: Mohammad Amir reacts to Ramiz Raja’s claims of not receiving salary as PCB chief

Newly-appointed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja recently revealed that he is not charging a single penny while serving the apex cricket board amid these testing times.  Responding to Raja’s recent remarks, former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir has claimed that the chairperson of the Pakistani cricket board is entitled to many benefits during his stint.

Amir, who has become a staunch cricket of the PCB in recent years, had shocked the entire Pakistani cricket fraternity by taking a premature retirement. Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Amir shared some details about how a PCB chief is not paid a monthly salary but is entitled to a lot of benefits during his tenure.

“To the extent I know, PCB Chairman is not paid a monthly salary but gets a lot of benefits. I may be wrong, but this is what I have heard,” Mohammad Amir explained in a tweet. Amir’s tweet has come after former Pakistan captain Raja had opened up about sacrificing his career in order to take the post of PCB chairperson.

“The car that I own is a 2008 model one. I don’t regret the fact that I don’t own a big house or a fancy car or money. Many a time, you need to play an innings for the honor,” Raja had said. Nominated by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, former cricketer Raja was formally elected as the chairman of the PCB ahead of ICC World T20 2021.

One of the most celebrated voices in Pakistani cricket, Raja had shared advice for Amir when the former pacer of the Green Army had alleged ‘mental torture’ from the Pakistan team management while announcing his early retirement.

“Mohammad Amir retires. Sad untimely exit of a potential superstar! And a lesson for aspiring youth: Respect your talent and understand your responsibilities. Don’t mistake wealth for respect. Respect is earned by having a strong character and not by worldly glitzy shit,” Raja had said in a tweet last year.
