In the recent past, several celebrities from the entertainment industry have stressed the need for being ‘natural’ on social media. Uploading photographs without filters and/or makeup has sort of turned into a trend on Instagram, and many seem to be all game for it. Actress Radhika Apte, in an exclusive interview , shared her take on prominent celebrities opening up about being natural on the photo-sharing platform.
“I think people should also stop doing surgeries, and then talk about natural beauty,” she said, adding that she is someone who is into both edited and non-edited photographs, wherein edited refers to the use of filters on social media uploads.
She explained: “I think everybody knows how my face looks without makeup, there’s nothing to hide there. Sometimes I am just really bored of doing makeup but the brand expects me too, so I just put up a filter as I can’t be bothered to do my makeup.”
The actress, who enjoys a massive fan-following on social media, has seen the good, bad and ugly of the internet. Asked how she deals with social media trolling, Radhika said it doesn’t normally impact her. But she happened to read a few things during the lockdown, and the actress confesses it disturbed her.
“Normally not, I never read comments. A couple of times in the lockdown I happen to read something and it disturbed me. Not because it made me uncomfortable but it’s just that there is so much hatred and negativity in people’s hearts. It’s very difficult to see that, it just feels very heavy,” she said on the sidelines of a promotional event for Daniel Wellington.
The actress has been associated with the brand since 2018 and thinks it’s just the right fit for her. “I love watches, I give watches as a gift to a lot of people as well. I love their designs, it really suits my taste, and they are minimalistic, classic and they go with most of the outfits that I wear. My two favourite would be the Petite Melrose in mesh strap, in the black and white dial. I also love the Iconic Link,” she said.
As someone who has been a part of films like Shor in the City, Vetri Selvan, Badlapur, Manjhi The Mountain Man, Parched, Phobia, Pad Man and Andhadhun among others, Radhika has received critical acclaim for her performances over the years. The actress, however, faced her share of struggles when she started out in the film industry.
Sharing some of her initial struggles, Radhika said, “Lot of gender disparity. Disparity because you are not from the industry. I think it’s still there. Also, not having conventional looks or even age now,” she said, adding, “I think all normal things that almost everybody goes through in their respective fields.”
The actress also said that rejection is an everyday thing for a freelancer in any industry. “Not only an actor, but even a photographer would also face rejections. One just has to learn to not take it personally and move on. It’s part and parcel of life,” she said. The actress has recently wrapped up the shoot of Forensic with Vikrant Massey and Ronit Roy in key roles.
