‘Khamiyaza bhugatna padhega’: Mehbooba Mufti warns Centre against mass detention of Kashmiris

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti  warned the Centre against the reported mass detention of Kashmiris in the aftermath of recent killings of people belonging to minority communities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to reports of detention of more than 500 people in Jammu and Kashmir by security forces, Mufti told media that following the death of a Kashmiri Pandit and a Sikh woman in Srinagar, she “knew” that the local administration will begin its “atrocities” against the people of Kashmir.

“Crackdown has begun and they are rounding up and detaining Kashmiris in huge numbers. There is no evidence against them,” she said.

The former J&K CM demanded the government to reveal the identity of the detained people and their crimes.

“If they continue to detain people like this, then there will be dangerous results of it and the government may end up paying a heavy price,” she warned.

Mufti was reacting to the reports claiming at least 700 people have been detained in Kashmir following the latest spate of civilian killings.

Earlier in the day, she took to her official Twitter handle and said, “J&K admin had prior information about attacks on minorities.Yet they chose to ignore these inputs. Instead they were busy providing security to Union Ministers who were brought to Kashmir to amplify BJPs fake narrative & propaganda of so called normalcy in J&K.”

“Not taking responsibility & arresting 700 civilians shows their intention to shift blame & absolve themselves. Collective punishment & humiliation of an entire population has become the one size fits all approach to resolve problems caused due to GOI’s punitive policies,” she tweeted further.
