FPSC, FICSI launch Food Safety Readiness Programme

Food Processing Skills Canada (FPSC) will work with Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative (FICSI) to develop a program which will address the food safety needs of the Indian food industry along the lines of the food safety measures that are being adopted globally by food industries.

The FICSI is an autonomous body under the National Skill Development Corporation and it launched the India Food Safety Readiness Program on Wednesday. The programme will include a series of webinars which saw registrations and participation from over 1000 plus industry professionals and students. The FPSC is a non-profit industry-led organisation that is engaged in workforce development in Canada.

The FPSC was involved in developing a national skills strategy which is a proven long-term approach successfully utilized by the industry.

The workshop is important for FICSI as the Covid-19 pandemic amplified focus on food safety and hygiene globally. FICSI CEO, Sunil Marwah, said that the collaboration between FICSI and the FPSC will enable participants to get acquainted with global food safety norms. He said that the importance of food safety and hygiene in the food ecosystem is necessary and FICSI was able to bring this unique skilling program that lets the participant undergo the course at their own pace.

Marwah highlighted the idea behind collaborating with Food Processing Skills Canada. He stressed the importance of food safety and hygiene in the food ecosystem and how FICSI has been able to bring this unique skilling program that lets the participant undergo the course at their own pace and get acquainted with global food safety norms. This knowledge could improve the competitiveness of Indian food exporters.

Jennefer Griffith, Executive Director FPSC, Deanna Zenger, Project Manager and Trainer FPSC and Minty Gadhok, Consultant FPSC spoke at the event. They described the salient features of the learning program and how it will enable the learners to confidently upskill and grow their knowledge of food safety requirements in the industry.

The training program features – a modern state-of-the-art Learning Management System, self-paced and interactive e-learning library, provides an insight into the working culture and processing techniques of the food processing industry, modules created keeping in mind the international food safety standards.

The program includes 10 courses of 40 hours that cover the food safety, hygiene, and sanitation requirements of the food industry, and also contains self-reading material provided by means of links and articles that are up to date and consist of global case studies and examples.
