Justice Bindal was appointed on April 29 as the acting Chief Justice of Calcutta HC after the elections got over in West Bengal. He was in the middle of a standoff between the Trinamool Congress and the Centre following the polls.

As per the new notification, five Chief Justices and 28 judges have been recommended for transfers as well.

Justice Akil Qureshi, who is currently the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, will be recommended to the Rajasthan High Court, while Rajasthan HC Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty will shift to Tripura High Court.

The five chief justices to be transferred are:

  1. Arup Kumar Goswami from Andhra Pradesh to Chhattisgarh
  2. Mohd Rafiq from Madhya Pradesh to Himachal Pradesh
  3. Akil Qureshi from Tripura to Rajasthan
  4. Indrajit Mahanty from Rajasthan to Tripura
  5. Biswanath Somadder from Meghalaya to Sikkim

The decisions were taken by the SC collegium yesterday evening, but the body, headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and consisting of Justices UU Lalit and AM Khanwilkar, has not been formally notified, according to news agency IANS.
