‘Another case of political vendetta’: TMC’s Sukhendu Sekhar reacts to CBI raid on Partha Chatterjee’s office

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre over a raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on party leader Partha Chatterjee’s office.

TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray accused the Central government of unleashing political vendetta against the Trinamool leaders to take revenge for its defeat in the recently concluded Assembly polls in West Bengal.

“This is another case of political vendetta. We’ve time and again said that the BJP govt is only targeting the TMC government because Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the only leader who’s opposing their anti-people policies,” ANI quoted Ray as saying.

Chatterjee was summoned last month by the CBI to appear before its office in Kolkata’s CGO Complex in connection with the I-Core chit fund case.

The CBI officials reached the Camac Street office of Pratha Chatterjee, the heavyweight Trinamool leader and state industries minister, who had turned down the Central investigation agency’s directive to visit its office, saying officials could instead meet him at his office or home.

The minister, among Trinamool-appointed observers for the Bhabanipur Assembly by-elections, had reasoned that he was busy with poll-related work. On Monday Chatterjee was at his departmental office.

A notice was given to Chatterjee in connection with the I-Core chit fund probe on September 8. He was asked to appear today at the CBI office, Kolkata. This is the second notice given to Chatterjee. Previously, he was summoned ahead of the Bengal elections when he said that he was busy with the campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned West Bengal Law minister Moloy Ghatak on September 14 in an alleged coal smuggling case.
